The world’s best female cyclists are coming to Halden 15-17 August and the bicycle festival Ladies Tour of Norway was launched with a fanfare at Thon Hotel in Halden Wednesday evening. – We wish to make a fuss of the women and therefore we arrange a proper launch party to point out Ladies Tour of Norway towards both media and partners. There are many large bicycle races arranged in Norway, but a proper quality race for women is missing. That is what we are planning to change, says an enthusiastic race manager, Roy Moberg, who had rented nice looking convertibles, nineteenth century guards, mayors and brass band to give the launch an extra something. Norwegian ambassadors -We have selected some of the most promising Norwegian female cyclists as ambassadors for the race. Several of them are already internationally merited cyclists while others are fresh, however common for all of them is that they are young aspiring talents who will hopefully characterize Norwegian female cycling many years to come. The ambassadors attending the launch were Thea Thorsen, Miriam Bjørnsrud og Emilie Moberg, all from Hitec Products, and also Eline G. Brustad, Asker CK and Solveig Edøy, CK Victoria. In addition the world number one, Emma Johansson, Orica AIS also participate as an ambassador. It is important for Norwegian cycling that high quality races is arranged in Norway. To meet the world elite on home ground inspires stronger commitment and contributes to increased attention on Norwegian female cycling, says sports manager in Norges Cykleforbund, Hans Falk. The world’s best at the starting line The competition in Halden will be sharp in the middle of August. Currently it is confirmed that three of the four best teams on the world ranking will set to start. Many of them combine the participation with the WC in Vårgårda the following weekend and therefore come with their predicted best crew. There has been a huge interest from many teams around the world and when we open for registration via our home page there are only a few positions left, Moberg informs. Varied courses and folk festival The race is in three laps with prologue on Friday evening, mass start from Strømstad in Sweden to Halden and further one more mass start on Sunday where start and finish is at stunning Fredriksten fortress in Halden. We offer varied and thrilling courses and I think both cyclists and audience will be pleasantly surprised by the variations and the picturesque courses. We will make an audience-friendly finish in central Halden with a lot of people and an intimate atmosphere. We have all of Halden with us in the organizing and aim to make this weekend in August into a festival, says Moberg. Race for female common fitness cyclists Saturday the 16th of August all women are invited to join our female common fitness race from Strømstad to Halden. The race is arranged without time registration. The adventure and the joy of cycling is the main issue. -Halden CK is the local organizer and in connection with the professional stage race there will be arranged a children’s race on Friday and a common fitness race for women on Saturday in the same traces as the professionals cycle. We will make this into Norway’s most cozy race with low shoulders and on the women’s terms, says an enthusiastic race leader, Heidi Stenbock- Haakestad. On schedule Now we are well under way, says a satisfied Roy Moberg after the launch Wednesday evening. We have many important partners both locally and nationally who will contribute to develop this arrangement in the years to come. Without them it would not be possible to arrange this in such a short time. We invite cyclists, teams, audience, media and all others who are interested to reserve 15-17 August in the calendar. There will be a bicycle festival in Halden for the women, both for the professionals and the common fitness cyclists, concludes Moberg and Stenbock-Haakestad.
